Keep the children occupied on Hayling
Island
The beach is a safe and wonderful place to explore. It's
right outside the front door of Cockle Warren and it's
free!
On the beach there is a skate boarding area with all sorts of
ramps and jumps, so pack the skate board. There are also sandy
play areas for the younger children. The beach is a clean,
safe, pebble beach, that has won the European Blue Flag as well
as the Keep Britain Tidy - Seaside Award flag for its
cleanliness and management.
During the summer there are donkey rides on the beach. If
you want to ride horses, there are places on Hayling Island
where you can learn.
Hayling Island is well known for its water sports.
Hayling Island Sailing Club is world
class and plenty of the olympic squad go there to train as
the waters are so good. We are the nearest hotel to the
sailing club.
Kitesurfing is thought to have been invented on Hayling Island
and if you want to learn, whilst you're here, you could go to
the Hayling Island Kitesurf School.
Windsurfing is also very popular amongst visitors. Hayling
Island offers a wide variety of conditions, depending on the
wind direction and tidal conditions. The seafront is fairly
exposed and so windsurfing and sailing works well in most
wind directions. You have to be careful, though, as there is
no land mass until you hit either the Isle of Wight or
France!
For younger children, again the sea is great, but there is
also the Hayling Island Fun Railway, which is
great fun - for all ages. Beachlands also holds a soft play
area, indoor ice rink and bowling alley as well as the
funfair!
